Another week, another award winning project
/Edinburgh’s main rail outlet, Haymarket station has been named the best civil engineering project at the 2015 Saltire Civil Engineering Awards following a refurbishment and extension project, which included a full metalwork package carried out by Annandale Design.
The extensive project required Annandale Design to manufacture and install all stainless steel work for the station over a period of 8 months, including the production of custom-made stainless steel barriers, balustrades and handrails, as well as an extensive secondary steelwork package.
The complete £25million redevelopment included the full refurbishment of the Grade A listed station building, a vast extension, and two 110 tonne modules lifted into place overnight whilst the station remained fully operational with minimal disruption to services. Innovative construction methods, including the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), were used to ensure no impact on the 12,000 passengers and 800 train movements through the station daily.
The project saw off competition from the Borders Railway, Ullapool Harbour, Hampden Park and a River Ness flood alleviation scheme – each of which received a commendation.
Annandale’s Scott Martin commented, “We are delighted to see another project we have worked on be awarded so highly. Our team worked extremely hard throughout the 8 months to ensure everything was finished on time and to our exceedingly high standards. Congratulations to Morgan Sindall and everyone involved in the project on the award!”
